Summer Camps 2020

Since 2012 we have been putting together our list of most recommended camps in Miami.  We research and talk to over 400 camps in the area, and we know almost everyone by now! What has happened this year is totally insane and we are still trying to process it. Due to COVID-19, we are working closely with Summer Camp organizers to bring you updated info. As I said in my Summer Camps 2020 Getting real post everyone is doing their best to continue to create memories of summer while taking all necessary precautions acco rding to health and safety guidelines. While camps are navigating different scenarios and modalities here is a list with basic information of those camps we trust and share every year. Stay tuned for updates or simply go ahead and contact them directly with any specific questions. 

Academic/Virtual Summer Camps

  • Alexander Montessori Camp: One of our favorites when it comes to indoor/outdoor fun. Alexander Montessori, like Most everyone is still waiting on announcements from Miami-Dade County regarding the conditions under which summer camps can operate in order to render decisions.  As of the last update, all onsite programs through June 19th have been canceled. ACADEMIC LABS FOR CHILDREN GOING INTO GRADES 1-6 They will start off the summer offering their Elementary Academic Labs (Reading Lab, Math Lab, and Spanish Lab) virtually.   • Camp Gulliver:  Providing a safe environment for your children is their top priority. Due to ongoing social distancing restrictions, they have restructured their 2020 Summer programs.   • Virtual Falcon Summer Camps @ Palmer Trinity: Palmer Trinity School invites boys and girls in Kindergarten and up in the greater Miami community to experience arts, academics, enrichment, and sports at our 2020 Virtual Falcon Summer Camp. Join their world-class faculty, staff, and summer camp specialists for a fun-filled and activity-based program for all ages..  Contact:

  • MICA Virtual Camp:  MICA offers a wide range of Summer Camp opportunities (virtually over Zoom while current social distancing requirements are in place) that allow learning to continue while not taking away from summer play. Each week of summer camp has a specific theme that focuses on a new topic, allowing for variety and exploration. Contact: 786.378.8646

Adventure, Nature & Exploration

  • Camp Guaikinima @ Virginia Historic Beach Park: This Camp is all about connecting with nature and others through engaging sport and social activities,  learning new talents, self-assurance and having fun in a healthy and safe environment. Designed to expose children to live challenging, competitive and healthy adventures plus Spanish immersion program.   • Summer Break Camps 2020 @ Fairchild Tropical Botanic: Give your kids an exciting summer experience in one of the most beautiful places in Miami.   • Key Bees Camp: sport tournaments - races - scavenger hunts - capture the flag - beach activities - cooperation adventure games - archery- kayaks - ropes - arts & crafts. Contact: 786.216.3085 

  • Camp on the Key: They use beautiful outdoor playgrounds and outdoor class room, to explore and discover the beauty of nature.  Contact: 305.361.2058 

Sports, Movement & Water

  • Crandon Golf Academy:  Campers learn how to play golf and the fundamentals of the game. Contact: 786.253.2548

  • Coconut Grove Sailing Club: Organized to give each camper opportunities for individual growth, learning new skills, making friends, developing teamwork and sailing how to sail safely. Ages: 6 to 17 years.  Contact: 305.444.4571 X11

  • Miami Equestrian Center: Campers will have the opportunity to experience the joys of horsemanship, and the responsibilities of horse ownership. Campers will also have fun with mounted and unmounted games, arts and crafts, and plenty of water-balloon fights. Ages: 7 - 13 Contact: 786.231.9902

  • Specialized Camps @ VKOC: Choose between Kid's MT Bike Camp, Kid's Fishing Camp, Kid's Snorkeling and Diving Camp. Ages: 5 - 16 years  Contact: 786.224.4777

  • Key Biscayne Aquatic Camp: They encourage every camper to explore what lies beyond the waters edge. By presenting water activities as hands-on-fun , campers learn water safety, build confidence and leave with a life time of water skills. We also instill a “respect and protect” ocean attitude.   • Miami Kiteboarding Summer Camp: Established in 2010, Miami Kiteboarding Summer Camp - renowned for the high quality of its innovative sports - has been offering watersports summer camps to kids from 6 to 14.  Kids experience the fun of a lifetime in our natural park preserve in Crandon Park 5 min from Miami.

  • Summer Intensive Dance Workshop @ Ayala Royal Ballet: Students are shown the fundamentals of our technique through daily ballet class; stretching, gymnastics, contemporary classes/jazz classes, repertoire, musical theater, and pointe work. Online & On-Site! Contact: 305.763.2214

Art & Design

  • Online Beaux Arts Camp @ the Lowe Art Museum: Taught over Zoom with a live art teacher, our classes teach your child how to draw their favorite cartoon and comic characters from popular movies, comic books and TV shows.. Ages: 5 - 12 years old Contact: 305.284.1672​​

  • ICA Miami Middle School Portfolio Prep: ICA Miami offers a one-week Portfolio Prep designed to prepare incoming 7th and 8th grade students who intend to apply to magnet and charter arts schools. Participants will be guided by museum educators and college mentors to prepare for the competitive application process through portfolio review and sketchbook building exercises. Throughout the course, participants will review schools’ application and audition requirements to understand the level of performance expected if accepted into art school.   • Let it Beat Academy! A fun music experience, your kid will learn introduction to music, instrument instruction (guitar, piano, vocals, drums, bass, and keyboards), performing ensemble, Broadway style dance class, recording studio experience. Their program is developed by Guillermo Vadala, a Grammy Award musician who has worked with Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin and more. Ages: 6 and up Contact: 786.483.8327

  • Virtual Frost Young Musicians' Summer Camp @ UM Frost: Their talented and distinguished musical faculty provides group teaching, one-on-one coaching, master classes, informal jam sessions and fun camp concerts.   • Center Tone Summer Camp: Students will learn to put together a real rock/pop band.  Lessons on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, voice, stage presence and recording.   • Splish Splash Summer Fun & Swim Camp @ KBCC Day School: The camp is organized to not only be a lot of fun but to also include some educational and stimulating activities through computers and science.  The camp will have weekly themes and include activities such Gymnastics, Swim lessons, Yoga, Hip Hop, Bounce houses, water slides & play. Ages:  walking toddler - 7 yrs Contact: 305.361.7501

Museum Fun

  • Frost Science Summer Camp:  There’s a cool new way to spend the summer with Miami’s Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. From June 8 through August 14, children ages 4-14 will be able to explore the wonders of science through weeklong virtual camps themed around engineering, marine sciences, astronomy, technology and more. Virtual campers can unleash the power of science right from home with exciting experiences like live hands-on activities led by museum educators, virtual meet-the-scientist sessions, virtual lab tours and more.. There is also limited availability for an In-person Summer Camp at the museum with extensive safety measures. Frost Science members receive a discount on Summer Camp registration. Ages: K - Grade 8.   • City Trekker Summer Camp @ Coral Gables Museum: This camp explores the City of Coral Gables through a variety of disciplines and takes advantage of the many cultural destinations and activities that The City Beautiful and the Museum have to offer. Ages: 5-12 years

  • Summer Hackers Camp: Summer Hackers is a two-week immersive summer camp featuring hands-on activities focused on introducing future creators to emerging technology. Students will be introduced to and will develop fundamental skills for creating and thinking about cutting-edge technology with the latest digital tools available. Ages: 7-14 years

  • YMCA Miami Camps: Summer Camp at the Y offers a variety of adventures from sports, to science, art, aquatics and fitness and camps in South Florida’s natural habitats where campers will go kayaking exploring marine life and more. 

  • Miami Dade Parks Summer Camp: Offers a wide range of outdoor camps to kids at park locations throughout the county. Camps include programs for general activities, swimming, sports, environmental and children with disabilities.  Contact: 786.315.5410

Therapeutic Summer Camp

  • Cindy Suarez is a licensed educator and a psychotherapist with over 20 years in collective experience. She holds degrees in education, early childhood certification coupled with a graduate degree in psychology. She is currently offering different programs to cope during the pandemic and summer learning gaps. Her programs include:  Educational tutoring,  Psychology session,  Homework wellness plan that encompasses mind body and soul,  Programs are individually customized to meet your child’s needs.
